KARACHI: The staff of Sindh Prevention and Control Programme of Dengue (PCPD) has still not paid salaries for three months due to delay in the release of the budget.
According to details, the Sindh health department has failed to acquire the approval of the allocation of salaries from respective authorities responsible for the assigned budget of the PCPD, causing hardship to the employees. The surveillance and monitoring of hospitals have also slowed down in the Karachi due to delay in the release of the budget.
Sources at PCPD told PPI that major government hospitals like Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, Civil Hospital Karachi and others had stopped sharing data of dengue programme administration on a regular basis while only two major private hospitals were sharing data of dengue cases on a regular basis.
During the peak season of the disease, which started from August and will continue till December, all dengue prevention and control activities had slowed down due to poor coordination between healthcare institutions and the programme administration and only a few health facilities were sharing data with the programme.
PCPD Programme Manager Dr Abdul Rasheed Sheikh while talking to PPI said that the salaries would be deposited in accounts of the employees next month. He added that all the pending salaries of staff would be paid soon after the release of the budget.
