Govt’s priority is to maintain demand, supply: minister

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Industry and Trade Sheikh Alla-u-Din has said that the top priority of Punjab’s government is to maintain demand and supply in the province. He expressed these views while chairing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Price Control.

On this occasion, Food Provincial Minister Bilal Yasin and other concerned officers were also present. Alla-u-Din said that after shortage of tomatoes, it is necessary to work on emergency basis along with all concerned departments. During the meeting, the departments briefed that tomato prices raised in the local market due to decay of crop in Balochistan. New production of tomatoes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will arrive in the market within 20 days and tomato prices will be lowered.

The provincial minister further said Pakistan has been facing a serious problem regarding supply of tomatoes for several years, adding that living nations have to make decisions according to their domestic interest. He directed concerned departments to enhance import from Afghanistan to meet the shortage of tomatoes.
