General elections to be held as per schedule, confirms Talal Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: Minister for State Interior, Talal Chaudhry on Tuesday rejected a call for early elections by certain factions of the opposition.  He further confirmed that general elections will be held next year as per the schedule.

Chaudhry said this while speaking to media prior to ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s hearing in the accountability court on Tuesday. “Nawaz Sharif can’t be removed using this kind of accountability,” said Talal.

The accountability court on Tuesday, allowed Nawaz to exit the court after making a brief appearance so that legal proceedings against him could be initiated. The accountability court also announced that Nawaz Sharif will be indicted on October 2 on corruption charges. In addition, the court has also ordered the issuance of bailable warrants of Nawaz’s children, Hasan, Hussain, and Maryam as well as his son-in-law MNA Capt (retd) Safdar to ensure their appearance at the next court hearing scheduled on October 2.
