LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif returned to Lahore from London on Tuesday morning, ahead of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s appearance before the accountability court in relation to the corruption references against the Sharifs.
Shehbaz travelled to London on Saturday to hold a meeting with his brother, ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif at the latter’s son Hasan Nawaz’s London residence.
Shehbaz has blatantly rejected rumours of a rift in the Sharif family emphasising that those who are trying to create misunderstandings should take note of the fact that he would always stand by his brother, Nawaz Sharif.
Former prime minister Nawaz reached London on August 30 in order to tend to his ailing wife, Kulsoom Nawaz, who had a surgery for throat cancer and is currently undergoing treatment for lymphoma. He returned to the country early Monday morning to appear before the Islamabad Accountability Court on Tuesday, which is hearing corruption cases against Nawaz Sharif and his family.
The court had summoned Nawaz Sharif in addition to his family members including daughter Maryam, sons Hussain and Hasan, and son-in-law MNA Capt (retd) Safdar.
However, only Nawaz appeared in person at Tuesday’s court hearing, since the other family members remain in the UK.
Nawaz is likely to address a press conference later during the day on Tuesday.
