GUJRAT: Former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi on Monday held Shehbaz Sharif responsible for the Model Town tragedy.
While speaking at the death anniversary of Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi in Gujrat, he said that Shehbaz Sharif had spilled the blood of 14 people in Lahore’s Model Town area.
Shehbaz will get a punishment which will be remembered in history, said the former Punjab chief minister.
He said that the Sharif family’s wealth and stature are of no use when they are not respected by the masses.
Criticising the Sharif brothers, he said that the two have stolen from the poor.
“They taught their children what to say in front of the TV regarding properties, they didn’t know it will be considered as a stance in court,” he said.
According to a private commission report, the Punjab CM’s undertaking for the Model Town incident which was submitted to Baqir Najfi was not accepted.
The police and local administration proved ‘ineffective’ in controlling the crowd in ‘a professional way’, added the private commission report.
The CM directed the secretary to resolve the issue as soon as he was informed about a clash between the police and mob, stated the CM’s undertaking.
The report further notes that Shehbaz’s undertaking and press conference seem to be contradictory and the government should investigate into the matter to unearth facts about the incident.
At least 14 workers of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) were killed by the police during clashes near the Minhajul Quran Secretariat in Lahore’s Model Town area on June 17, 2014.
