‘Imran licking where he spat’
— Nayyar Bukhari says democracy surviving because of PPP’s sacrifices
Opposition leader in National Assembly (NA) Syed Khurshid Shah said on Monday the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan had earlier termed Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) an anti-state party and he was now licking after spitting for seeking votes.
“First of all, Imran Khan should tender an apology for disgracing the people of Karachi because it was on the record that he had called them ‘sheep and goat’ for listening to Altaf Hussain’s speeches and he had termed MQM anti-state party. Today, the same Imran Khan was licking after spitting and was going to MQM to seek their votes. Imran’s agenda was to annihilate the system, but PPP wants the continuity of democracy,” he said.
He went on to say that only the parliament was a symbol of vibrant democracy. “If there is any problem over the chairman of NAB, then its solution lies with the parliament as well,” he said. A 12-member committee is there in parliament in this regard. This committee comprises of eight MNAs and four senators. “The government and opposition has equal share in this 12 members committee as it consists of 6 members each from both sides,” he added.
“Even then, voting is conducted and if result comes out fifty–fifty then the matter is sent to election commission and in case it is not resolved at the level of election commissioner then Supreme Court decides the matter,” he said. He went on to say that PPP had never indulged in any dishonesty. Removing opposition leader from his slot is a new tradition and he has worked honestly as opposition leader for four years and discharged his obligations.
He underlined that there should be no dichotomy between the words and practice of a politician, otherwise how would he lead the nation. “I had said this on record that Nawaz Sharif should return to Pakistan and face the cases. If Nawaz Sharif has struck any deal, then he knows nothing in this regard but Imran Khan can tell about it,” he said.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Secretary General Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari has said that PPP desires that the assemblies complete their terms. He said that prime ministers can be changed in governments during tenures. In a statement, Bukhari said that PTI leader Imran Khan lacks political maturity.
It is the right of the House leader to ask for dissolution of assembly and after the 18th amendment, every assembly is a sovereign entity and the chief ministers have the right to ask for dissolution of their respective assemblies if they feel the need for it.
The PPP secretary general said that democracy in the country is because of PPP leadership’s sacrifices. PTI and its leadership have no feelings for democracy and it was Khurshid Ahmed Shah who brought PTI members back to the parliament. PTI members in the assembly only received their monthly wages and did nothing for the people because Imran kept them busy on container.
