CM directs health dept to ensure medicine supply to govt hospitals

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the health department to ensure supply of medicines to all government hospitals by the end of next week.

Presiding over a meeting of health department here at the CM House, he regretted that the purchase of medicines had not been completed so far and some hospitals were facing shortage of medicines. Health Minister Dr Sikandar Mendhro told the meeting that with the approval of the chief minister, 15 per cent local purchase had been allowed to hospital and now there was no shortage.

Health Secretary Fazal Pechuho said that the purchase committee of the department did not work as some of the senior members had resigned due to their personal engagements and some others were out of the country. The chief minister directed him to adopt legal procedure and complete the purchase of the medicine.

It was noted that the operational budget of hospitals of Sindh came to Rs18 billion in which around Rs6.5 billion were tagged for the purchase of medicines.

Talking about Public Private Partnership (PPP) in various government hospitals, the CM said that the private partners were operating in a best way. He added that their issues must be solved on priority basis so that they could provide even better healthcare facilities.
