LAHORE: After instructions by the Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the authorities to take action against high prices of vegetables, at least 82 shopkeepers were arrested for demanding extra price of tomatoes from the customers in Lahore.
Price Control magistrates raided different markets and detained 82 shopkeepers for selling tomatoes at extremely high prices and were fined Rs 40,000 as well.
Lahore DC Sameer Ahmed said that the authorities are carefully monitoring supply of tomatoes in the metropolis.
The price of tomatoes have crossed double century in Peshawar as they are being sold at Rs 250 per kg while people in Karachi are buying them at Rs 200 per kg.
The vegetable sellers said that the tomato supply has been badly affected due to its wrong cropping while the prices are likely to be decreased in the coming week.
