KARACHI: Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) head Farooq Sattar said on Sunday Mayor Waseem Akhtar is working relentlessly for the betterment of the city despite a lack of funds and support from the provincial government.

While talking to reporters in Karachi, Sattar said MQM-P is a party for the general benefit of the public but it is awful to see that the city’s local government and institutions lack the power to solve the city problems. Sattar said that the party is overseeing the performance of every department which falls under it.

The reports regarding the replacement of the mayor and deputy mayor are baseless contrary to what is reported in the media, he said.

The MQM-P chief said that in 2016-17, Rs14 billion were issued, out of which Rs4 billion were used in development projects.

Earlier, Sattar and MQM-P leaders met the Bohri community leader. While talking to journalists, Sattar said the MQM-P has unity among its ranks, adding that the process of making people join a party by pressurizing them brings chaos and instability. Sattar told rivals that there was no need to be happy that people were leaving the party as the number of newcomers was way more than the deserters.
