Rabbani threatens to resign after disagreement over constitutional amendment

ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani on Friday threatened to resign after expressing his displeasure over re-voting on an amendment to Article 60 of the Constitution.

According to reports, Law Minister Zahid Hamid requested the Senate chairman to allow him to move a motion on re-voting on Article 60. In response, Rabbani said that he cannot give his permission over the matter since voting has already been done on the matter once.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Farooq H Naik supported Hamid’s plea.

An agitated Rabbani handed the Senate proceedings over to Deputy Chairman Maulana Ghafoor Haideri and left for his chamber, threatening to resign from his position.
