KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday sought the details of bank account of police head constable Muhammad Rafiq who had allegedly received Rs50million, meant to pay fuel charges and make special security arrangements for Muharram, debited in his account by senior police officers.
The SHC bench was hearing a plea filed for the acquittal of Assistant Inspector General (Finance) Fida Hussain who along with other senior officers was booked by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for allegedly misappropriating the funds released for Muharram security.
According to NAB, the senior police officers had misappropriated Rs50million and deposited the same in Rafiq’s account. While directing the NAB to submit the details of constable’s bank account, the bench adjourned the hearing of the case till November 9.
Earlier, the court had rejected the police officer’s applications for entering into the plea bargain deal with NAB and also ordered the cancellation of interim pre-arrest bail granted earlier. The police officer, who was superintendent of police (SP) by designation, had fled immediately after the cancellation of his interim bail.
