KARACHI: Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) AD Khawaja was informed on Thursday that as many as 65,129 policemen were assigned for deployment across the province under the Muharram Contingency Plan.
It was informed to the Sindh police chief in a report about the deployment of police on the occasion of Muharram-ul-Haram in the province including Karachi range, said a police statement.
The report said 2,914 vehicles, 7,939 personnel of reserved police, 2,914 personnel on motorcycles, 6,834 personnel on mobile vans and 9,444 pickets of police were a part of Muharram security plan all over the province. It added that as many as 1,506 police personnel on mobile vans and 1,436 on motorcycles will be patrolling on and in surroundings of the venues of the religious gatherings and routes of processions, as well as mosques and Imambargahs.
The IGP was also informed that as many as 14,563 Majalis will be organised in Sindh while 4,281 processions will be taken out across the province on the occasion of Muharram.
The security arrangements will be made at all 1,932 Imambargahs all over the province including 353 in Karachi, 584 in Hyderabad, 118 in Mirpurkhas, 93 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 374 in Sukkur and 410 in Larkana. The report also pointed out that a total 6458 Majalis, 655 mourning procession and 414 Tazia processions will be taken in Karachi.
According to reports, the IGP directed all the DIGs to personally review the overall security arrangements on all majalis, processions, mosques, Imambargahs as well as on the venues and routes of all small and main mourning processions and majalis during the holy month. He also directed the DIGs to also ensure briefings to the officials concerned regarding security arrangements on the occasion.
He also directed the police that foolproof security arrangements should be made in the province and that control rooms should be established for effective monitoring.
