PESHAWAR: First ever polio case in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) has been detected in Lakki Marwat district of the province, thus increasing the number of cases to five in the current calendar year throughout the country.
When contacted KP anti-polio in-charge Mohammad Akbar Khan informed that the National Health Laboratory (NHS) had confirmed the presence of the virus in a two-year-old girl in Tajazai area of Lakki Marwat.
He further said that the affected girl was safe and sound and was not paralysed, but it was an alert for the government and health department. He added that the government had already decided to continue anti-polio drive throughout the province, and adjoining tribal areas, till elimination of the disease.
According to reports, this case was the first in KP and fifth in the country during the current year.
