PPP MPA, security guards detained for assaulting Karachi corps commander’s security squad

KARACHI: Police have detained Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmaker Tariq Masood Arain and 20 others for assaulting the security squad of Karachi corps commander.

Hawaldar Fahimullah Jan, who looks after the security of Karachi Corps Commander Lt General Shahid Baig Mirza, lodged a complaint with Darakhshan police that he along with two other soldiers namely Arif and Ali Jan were attacked by armed men on September 16 on Khayaban-e-Mujahid in Defence Housing Authority, Karachi.

Fahimullah stated that driver Muhammad Altaf along with the soldiers was accompanying the family of the Karachi corps commander when around 11 pm, four men tried to obstruct the protocol. He said that the men were unable to produce their identification cards when they were stopped for a security check.

One person from the group phoned an individual named Tariq who sent more than a dozen armed men riding in two vehicles, one of them being a black land cruiser, to the scene of the incident.

He further stated that they were assaulted by the armed men who also snatched away official weapons from the army personnel. He added that they also threatened to kill them.

Subsequently, the soldiers made their way to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where they were treated for injuries and later to the police station to file a complaint against the incident. The FIR stated that armed men who assaulted Fahimullah and his colleagues were guards of PPP MPA Tariq Masood Arain from PS-24 Nawabshah and acted as per the instructions of Arain.
