Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday addressed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) contact group.

Addressing the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), PM Abbasi said Pakistan was deeply concerned over the plight of Rohingya Muslims and would make every effort to help the Rohingyas.

He urged the OIC to raise its voice for the persecuted community, who are fleeing a brutal crackdown by Myanmar security forces and Buddhist extremists.

“Pakistan reiterates its commitment to take full part in any humanitarian effort by the OIC or UN to help the Rohingya Muslims,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister also met Iranian President Hassan Rowhani, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as President Maithripala Sirisena of Sri Lanka and King Abdullah II of Jordan.

The Premier’s address to the UNGA — slated for September 21 — will be his debut into the highest international diplomacy after being sworn in as the Prime Minister last month.
