Death toll in Sukkur cement factory blast mounts to six

SUKKUR: The death toll in Sukkur cement factory blast has mounted to six as the injured Inspector Tahir Awan succumbed to his wounds here on Wednesday.

At least five people including two members of the Bomb Disposal Squad, a Rangers official and a labourer embraced martyrdom while defusing explosives at the factory on Tuesday.

The deceased were in the middle of defusing explosives at the site when the explosion occurred, critically injuring six other Rangers personnel, the factory manager and a labourer.

Following the incident, heavy contingents of police arrived at the venue.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday demanded a detailed report about the incident, including where and how the explosives were placed inside the factory and who brought them there.
