KARACHI: One person was killed on Wednesday in a blast that occurred at a cosmetics factory located near a school at Shahrah-e-Faisal in Nursery area of Karachi. The deceased’s body was successfully recovered from the wreck.
As per reports, a fire broke out in the factory after the explosion was heard. Police, Rangers and rescue teams reached the site of the incident promptly to help evacuate the victims from the site of the incident and to overcome the blaze. As many as three fire tenders helped to douse the flames.
More than a dozen people were reported to be inside the factory when the incident took place.
People came out of their homes and offices in horror, and the nearby school was evacuated. The children told that they were in their classes when the explosion happened.
In addition, the bomb disposal squad was called to the site of the incident to ascertain the nature of the explosion.
According to the police, the blast took place in the godown where the chemicals were stored, confirming that there was no terrorist involvement in the incident.
The intensity of the outburst was so high that it damaged the adjacent buildings as well as the nearby school, causing glass windows to break.
