At least eight Indian fishermen from southern India state of Tamil Nadu were apprehended along with their two fishing boats by the Sri Lankan navy, India’s state-run broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) said Tuesday.

The fishermen were arrested while they were fishing near Neduntheevu, an island in the Palk Strait, in northern Sri Lanka.

The detained fishermen were reportedly taken to Kankesanthurai in northern Sri Lanka.

Last week, 12 Indian fishermen from the coastal town of Rameswaram were arrested by the Sri Lankan navy for allegedly crossing the international maritime boundary line.

Fishermen of the two countries are often jailed for accidentally crossing into each other’s territory.
