LAHORE: Returning Officer (RO) Muhammad Shahid on Tuesday announced the official result of NA-120 by-election and declared Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Kulsoom Nawaz the winner with 61,745 votes.
Addressing a press conference at the Election Commission here, he announced that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate Dr Yasmin Rashid received 47,099 votes to secure the second position. An independent candidate Azhar Hussain Rizvi secured the third position with 7,130 votes. Pakistan Peoples Party once again could not perform well and its candidate Faisal Mir got only 1,414 votes; JI also had to face a similar situation in the constituency and received only 592 votes.
Muhammad Yaqoob Sheikh, an independent candidate who was backed by Milli Muslim League, secured 5,822 votes, while other 38 candidates could not achieve votes in the three figures.
Overall turnout was recorded at 39.42 per cent, as only 126,860 out of 321,786 registered voters in the constituency used their right to franchise at 220 polling stations. 1,731 votes were rejected.
