Will visit every UC to thank her voters after losing by-poll
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate from NA-120 Dr Yasmin Rashid, on Tuesday, has started a door-to-door ‘Shukria Campaign’ in the constituency after resting for a day, Pakistan Today has learnt.
According to the details, Dr Yasmin, who stood runner-up in the by-election of NA-120 which took place on Sunday, by securing 47,099 votes against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Kalsoom Nawaz who grabbed 61,745 votes, has decided to visit the whole constituency once again in a bid to thank her voters who cast their votes for her on the polling day.
On Tuesday, Dr Yasmin visited Union Council (UC) 58 (Islampura) along with her team which ran a rigorous door-to-door campaign for Rashid and thanked her voters by visiting every street of the UC. “I am thankful to my voters who supported me wholeheartedly throughout my campaign and even on the Election Day,” she said, while visiting the constituency. She further added that the ideological workers of PTI are a great asset for the party and she always takes pride in meeting them. “The constituency of NA-120 is my second home and I would be available for my people anytime,” she said and added that she is still here in the constituency while Maryam Nawaz left the country for London right after the polling day.
I can’t forget the love of people that they showered on me during my door-to-door campaign of the constituency, she said. We have shaken the ‘Takht-e-Lahore’ with the help of people’s love and support as the victory margin of PML-N has decreased from over 40,000 to just 14,000, despite their use of state machinery in the campaign, she said. Dr Yasmin also predicted that PTI will win in the next general elections in the whole country, including Lahore, as she said that the love and support of the people would ultimately become the very reason of PTI’s win in the next elections.
On the very first day of Dr Yasmin’s ‘Shukria Campaign’, she also met with the students of different schools of the area, along with other people who chanted slogans in her favour and vowed to continue their support. PTI’s campaign in charge for NA-120 Andleeb Abbas and party’s MPA candidate from the constituency Zubair Niazi were also present on the occasion.
The door-to-door rigorous election campaign of Dr Yasmin was highly appreciated in several quarters, as she visited every nook and corner of the constituency during the last month and a half, since the seat fell vacant after the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif on July 28. It is worth mentioning here that Dr Yasmin has also served as a gynecologist for over two decades at Lady Wallington and Sir Ganga Ram Hospitals, which fall in NA-120 and garnered much public support among the masses. The ‘Shukria Campaign’ of Dr Yasmin will continue for some days as she is scheduled to visit all 23 UCs of the constituency.
