ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday lashed out at the Sharif family for not appearing before the accountability court which is hearing corruption references against them.
Talking to reporters outside the Election Commission of Pakistan, Chaudhry urged the Supreme Court’s monitoring judge, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, to take action against the Sharif family for not appearing in the court on Tuesday.
Referring to Asif Kirmani’s statement that he is unaware of Sharif family’s London address, Chaudhry said that had this been another country, no senator could dare to lie before the court. The entire country knows Sharif family’s addresses but the senator is telling the court that their addresses are not known to him, he added.
He termed Kirmani’s statement as a display of ‘non-serious attitude’ and stated that Kirmani should be taken into custody for ‘making a mockery of the court’.
Chaudhry observed that it was unusual for the court to be adjourned for a week in a corruption-related case. He urged the monitoring judge to take notice of the leniency in the trial court stating that the entire nation’s focus is on the trial outcome.
Chaudhry further stated that as per the NAB law, the accused can be penalised if he fails to show up for court proceedings.
The PTI leader also came down hard on the “deliberate” campaign to defame the state institutions by the ruling party. He said that Justice Ahsan was met with criticism for enquiring into the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case implementation. Stating the process, he said that after a report was published in a newspaper, the issue was also taken up on TV to be debated upon.
He alleged that Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal is heading the movement against the army and judiciary. He urged the chief justice of Pakistan to take notice of the campaign that is being used to attack the state institutions.
