Macedonia’s vice premier Bujar Osmani appealed Tuesday for concrete steps to be taken by the European Union (EU) and EU member states to give Macedonia greater visibility to the European perspectives and to strengthen the European optimism in the country.

“After the work done by Macedonia’s new government, special steps are now needed on the part of the European Union and its member states to show commitment to Macedonia’s integration,” Osmani told reporters at a press conference.

According to Osmani, Macedonia’s long blockade in integrations was caused by the deep institutional crisis in the country. For this reason, he said that the new government and secretariat for European Affairs stepped up efforts to return Macedonia on EU path.

“Our main challenge in our 100 first days in office was to remove this blockade and push ahead Macedonia’s EU integration agenda,” Osmani told reporters.

Osmani reiterated the government’s commitment to carry out the reforms needed to take the country closer to the EU.
