LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday reserved its judgement on a petition seeking directives for the Punjab government to make the enquiry report into the Model Town tragedy public.

A petition was filed for the release of the judicial enquiry report carried out by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi into the killings of Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s (PAT) workers in 2014.

The court reserved the verdict after hearing the arguments.

The petitioner’s lawyer asked the government’s counsel as to why the report was not made public yet, to which the lawyer said that releasing the report wouldn’t be useful.

The petitioner’s counsel further said that every Pakistani has the inherent right to complete information, and the fact that it is not being released is a violation of the Constitution.

On July 17, 2014, 14 people were killed and 100 others injured when the police opened fire to disassemble PAT protestors during an operation outside the residence of PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri.
