KARACHI: Governor Sindh Mohammad Zubair said on Tuesday that Karachi has become a lot safer than it was back in 2010 when he allegedly “received a chit from unknown persons” demanding extortion money.

The PML-N leader said after receiving the chit, he had to approach a minister to help resolve the issue.

He was speaking to media in Karachi about the law and order situation in the city.

He said ‘law and order’ has been Karachi’s main issue, adding that killings and firing incidents were commonplace in Karachi a few years ago— a situation that has, to some extent, been controlled.

He also added that financial activities have been thriving in the city, owing to the new-found peace.

He further said that a steering committee would soon be fashioned regarding the ‘Karachi package’.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbassi in August announced a Rs25 billion development package for Karachi and a Rs5bn package for Hyderabad during the current fiscal year.
