ISLAMABAD: Speaking on the floor of the Senate Tuesday, Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal has said that there were no threats facing the country which were not in knowledge of the cabinet’s National Security Committee (NSC).

Dispelling the impression that a four-member administrative forum existed where threats facing the state were discussed, the minister said that the highest committee for discussing issues pertaining to national security in the country was the NSC.

The interior minister’s statement apparently came in response to the former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar who a couple of months ago had alluded to a major threat to national security and pleaded the deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif to accept the verdict of the Supreme Court in Panama leaks case.

“These are very difficult times and very few know that. A handful of people are aware of the threats the country faces. I see very dark clouds surrounding the country,” Nisar said, adding, “There are two army men and two civilians who know of these dangers.”

The minister informed that the committee met on a regular basis and all the state institutions were well aware of the dangers country was facing.

He also said that there was no such information which a person could have in a personal capacity. He added, “There is nothing hidden from people holding government offices.”
