LAHORE: Dr Yasmin Rashid, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s candidate for NA-120 by-poll which was held on Sunday, said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) must withhold the results of the elections until the reservations of PTI are addressed.

Speaking to reporters on Monday in Lahore, Yasmin said that PTI had noticed a discrepancy in the votes, against which, it had submitted 25 petitions to ECP. “We were not given a level-playing field”, she said.

“We will not back out until our petitions in the ECP are settled. I’m going to take the ECP to court,” she said.

Yasmin also questioned why ECP did not take action against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for all its code of conduct violations, prior to the September 17 by-poll.

According to unofficial results, Kulsoom secured 59,413 votes in all, while Dr Yasmin got 46,145.

The PTI leader said that some of the voter record was missing in the ECP data. “This makes some 29,000 votes controversial and no official results should be announced until these are cleared,” she upheld. “Government’s machinery, including the state-run PTV, was used in the buildup to the NA-120 polls.”
