Federal govt calls IPCC meeting to resolve issues of water and power

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has called a meeting of the Inter-Provincial Coordination Committee (IPCC) on September 19 to resolve a host of burning issues of water and power.

According to sources, the 26th meeting of IPCC will be presided over by Federal Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada and will be attended by the chief ministers of four provinces as permanent members of the committee.

The meeting is scheduled to be held on September 19 in Islamabad.

The government has also invited the federal minister for water resources, state minister for petroleum, and federal minister for finance, revenue and economic affairs. Others invited include the petroleum division secretary and finance secretary.

According to details, the meeting will brainstorm to devise a solution for the energy problems faced by the country and to discuss the financial claims of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) against the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in the purview of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with regard to cross-adjustment of sales tax.

According to the six-point-agenda of the meeting, access to real-time electricity production in the country, usage by DISCOs (power distributing companies) and duration of load shedding on feeders of KP will be taken up in the meeting.

The meeting will also discuss the source adjustment of electricity duty by Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) against electricity dues of provincial government departments. Similarly, implementation of Kazi Committee Methodology (KCM) for calculation of net hydel profits, early signing of Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for Pehur Hydropower Project by CPPA-G and payment of arrears on account of electricity sold to PEPCO will also come under consideration.
