Five killed in roadside bombing in Bajaur Agency

PESHAWAR: Political Tehsildar of Mamoond, along with four others have been killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) bomb attack that detonated on a road side in  Tangi area of Loi Mamond tehsil in Bajaur Agency on Sunday.

As per official reports, two others were injured in the attack that targeted the official vehicle of Tehsildar.

Officials in political administration at Khar informed that Fawad Ali, Tehsildar of Mamond Tehsil of Bajaur Agency was on his way  in connection with a jirga meeting when his vehicle was attacked by unknown militants at the village Tangi Karigal.

As a result of the explosion, the vehicle was completely smashed with  five on board killed and two other sustaining critical injuries. After the explosion, the tribesmen shifted the deceased and the injured to the Agency headquarter hospital in Khar.

High ups from both civil administration and law enforcing agencies  rushed to the site cordoning off the area. A curfew like situation prevails in the area and the security forces have launched a search operation in the area.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. The officials in Khar have termed the incident  an act of terror.

Bajaur Agency is adjacent to Kunar Province of Afghanistan. Militants in the area including  banned Tehrik Taliban Pakistan remain under shelter in the area. Beside militants from Taliban of Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Islamic States (IS)- Daaesh also exercise influence across the border in Kunar province of Afghanistan. These militants launch attacks on security forces from time to time, tribal elders and government installations in Bajaur and adjacent Dir region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
