LAHORE: The Punjab government has planned to set up separate tannery zones to control pollution and protect the environment, Punjab Local Government Minister Manshaallah Butt said in a meeting on Saturday.
He said that polythene bags were also among the most dangers products for the environment and the government was mulling options to further tighten the laws in this regard.
The minister said that environment protection was among top priorities of the government.
He said that practical measures were also being taken to effectively manage hazardous waste generated by factories, hospitals etc. There is a need to increase number of incinerators in hospitals; however, the government was working on it, he said.
He said the government was also working on various projects to enhance the capacity of the stakeholders and introduce cleaner technologies in the province.
He said that environment protection was of basic importance for various productive sectors in the province including agriculture one.
