LAHORE: Awami Muslim League (AML) Chairman Sheikh Rasheed on Saturday said the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case is the ‘mother of all crimes’ of the Sharif family.
The Hudaibiya Paper Mills were allegedly used by the Sharif family to launder money outside the country in the 1990s, according to a confessional statement of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar that he recorded in front of a magistrate in Lahore on April 25, 2000.
“Dar should resign immediately,” Rasheed said while addressing a press conference in Lahore. He also accused the finance minister of facilitating the appointment of ‘money launderers’ in the State Bank of Pakistan
Criticising Maryam Nawaz, the AML chief said that the daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will divide the Sharif clan.
“Maryam caused the most harm to Sharif’s tenure [as prime minister],” Rasheed said.
Maryam spearheaded the election campaign in the NA-120 constituency after PML-N’s candidate and her mother, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz was diagnosed with cancer.
The seat fell vacant after Sharif was disqualified from holding public office by the Supreme Court on July 28. They by-poll is set to be held on September 17.
