SC did not evaluate our pleas against Panama Papers case verdict: PML-N minister

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and state interior minister Talal Chaudhry said on Friday tha their pleas against the Panama Papers case verdict was not evaluated by the Supreme Court (SC).

He was talking to the media after the court dismissed all the review petitions filed by Nawaz Sharif, his children, son-in-law, and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

He also added that the party will decide on its legal and political options it has after consultation amongst the senior leaders.

He also remarked that if the prime minister in a country cannot get justice, how can a common person!  And that the PML-N are now seeking a review of the country’s judicial system.

Earlier today, the five-member Supreme Court bench announced the verdict in review petitions case, upholding July 28 verdict.

Moreover, the apex court announced that former PM Nawaz remains disqualified, rejecting all review petitions.

The bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and including Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan heard the concluding arguments today.

Sharif was disqualified by the SC under Article 62(1)(f) for failing to declare unclaimed wages earned as an executive of the Dubai-based company owned by his son in the assets statement he filed alongside his nomination papers for the NA-120 constituency in the 2013 general elections.

During Wednesday’s hearing, the court had remarked that all judges hearing the Panama Papers case had unanimously disqualified Nawaz Sharif.

Members of the Sharif family have to now appear in the Islamabad Accountability Court on September 19 and Dar on September 20, where three references against the Sharif family and one against the finance minister have been filed.
