The US state of New York on Friday tightened transit system security as a precaution after an explosion at a London subway station.
“Out of an abundance of caution, I am directing state law enforcement to increase security at vital assets across New York, including airports, bridges, tunnels and mass transit systems,” said Andrew Cuomo, governor of New York state, in a statement.
“We remain vigilant, and we stand with the people of London,” Cuomo said.
The New York Police Department is “closely monitoring” developments in the London subway explosion, New York City Commissioner James O’Neill tweeted on Friday.
“No direct threats to #NYC, but always remain vigilant/aware of surroundings,” he tweeted.
At least 22 people including children have been hurt after a bomb exploded on board the rush hour District Line train at Parsons Green station in west London on Friday.
