LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived at Lahore Airport from London on Thursday morning.
He had travelled to London on September 5 to inquire about the health of Kalsoom Nawaz, who has recently undergone a surgery for throat cancer.
During his visit to London, Sharif also met with health experts and investors and urged them to invest in Lahore health department.
Sources said that Shehbaz Sharif would be leaving for Turkey today and will be back after the NA-120 by- election.
MEETING HELD TO REVIEW LAW AND ORDER
Later, Punjab CM addressed a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Law and Order at Civil Secretariat, to review the overall situation of law and order in the province, the tour of World XI, as well as the security arrangements with regards to by-election in NA-120. It was decided to impose a ban on display of weapons in all of Lahore.
The CM said that no stone will be left unturned to ensure the rule of law in the province and directed that every possible step be taken to continuously improve the law and order situation. He said that the arrangements of the final match between the world XI and Pakistan should be even better than for the first two matches.
He also said that ensuring peace and tranquility during the by-election of NA-120 should be the foremost responsibility. He also said that no incident of celebratory firing will be tolerated.
The CM held another meeting, in which the report of German experts about the establishment of an electricity generation plant from local coal in Salt Range was reviewed in detail.
Addressing the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif said that comprehensive study should be conducted for establishing an electricity generation plant based on local coal in the Salt Range and added that the quality of local coal be fully examined. The meeting decided to impose ban on the establishment of small coal power plants of local coal across the province and the chief minister approved this decision. The CM said that decision to ban small coal power plants has been taken to overcome the environmental pollution.
CM’S MESSAGE ON INTERNATIONAL DEMOCRACY DAY
In his message on the eve of International Day of Democracy, the chief minister said that the purpose behind celebrating this day is to promote democratic values and norms on permanent basis.
He said the democracy is an international system comprising of independence of opinion for evaluating socio-political, economical and cultural systems of the people. He said that democracy strengthens the state institutions for providing best services to the people in an organised manner. He said that democracy is a system of public-interest where decisions are not made on roads, but in the parliament. And, democracy is not limited to holding elections but is a system to solve people’s problems.
