LAHORE: Two of the three members of the three-judge bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) have rejected petitions that were lodged against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Kulsoom Nawaz in the NA-120 by-poll.

The bench was headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan and included Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi and Justice Shahid Jamil Khan.

PML-N Senator Asif Kirmani told the media that Kulsoom’s nominations papers were complete and claimed that there was no discrepancy in them.

Earlier during the week, the LHC had issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the PML-N candidate after three similar petitions challenged Kulsoom Nawaz’s candidacy.

The petition was filed by Pakistan Peoples Party’s NA-120 candidate Faisal Mir, Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s Advocate Ishtiaq Ahmad Chaudhry and Milli Muslim League’s Nabeel Shahzad, challenging NA-120 returning officer and the election tribunal decision to brush aside the objections against her nomination papers.

The petitions were based on the claim that the declaration filed by the PML-N candidate regarding disclosure of her family’s assets is misleading and not accurate.

The petitioners further challenged the eligibility of Kulsoom Nawaz candidacy claiming that she did not disclose an Iqama [UAE work permit] in her nomination papers.
