LAHORE: A three-member bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday dismissed petitions challenging the candidature of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Begum Kulsoom Nawaz for NA-120 by-election. Two judges out of the three-membered bench decided in Kulsoom Nawaz’s favour.
The bench comprising Justice Aminud Din Khan, Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi and Justice Shahid Jamil Khan heard the petitions filed by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Faisal Mir and others.
During the course of proceedings, the petitioners’ counsel argued that neither the returning officer nor the tribunal looked into the details of their objections, including concealment of assets by the PML-N candidate.
Begum Kulsoom Nawaz’s counsel opposed the contentions of the petitioners and submitted that baseless allegations were levelled against the acceptance of her nomination papers.
Returning Officer Muhammad Shahid appeared before the bench on being summoned and submitted the record.
The returning officer stated that he accepted the nomination papers of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz while keeping in view all the legal requirements.
The bench after hearing arguments of all parties dismissed the petitions.
