KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday ordered the arrest of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East over his absence in a case pertaining to the alleged establishment of the Bahadurabad police station on encroached land.

The SHC bench, headed by Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, was hearing a plea filed by a citizen, Haq Nawaz, who submitted that his plot located in Union Council No 1 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal was encroached upon by the local administration and later Bahadurabad police station was built on the same land. He submitted that he had approached the authorities concerned many times but it went in vain.

In the previous hearing, the court had directed SSP East to appear before the court along with relevant record but he did not turn up despite the court’s directives. His absence irked the judges who issued a bailable arrest warrant of Rs50,000 against the SSP and directed the concerned DIG to arrest and produce him at the next hearing.

The court had warned the authorities concerned of strict action if it was proven that the said police station was built illegally on the land of somebody else.
