ATC sentences man to 29 years in prison for acid attack

 

An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday sentenced a man to prison for 29 years for throwing acid on a woman, besides imposing Rs1.7 million fine.

ATC judge Muhammad Asghar heard the case of throwing acid on a woman.

After recording statements of witnesses and examining the evidence put up by the prosecution, the court awarded the accused 29-year imprisonment.

The court also imposed fine of Rs1.7 million on the accused Muhammad Zubair.

The court ruled that on failure to pay the fine, the accused would have to undergo an additional 18 years fine.

It is to be mentioned here that an FIR was registered at Sadiqabad Police Station on October 26, 2015, against the convict.

The convict had thrown acid on a woman Nazia Sadiq in Sadiqabad area.

It is crucial to state here that the practice of acid attack, especially on women, is prevalent in the society. The crime is perpetrated to exact revenge usually for refusing a marriage proposal.
