ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi have stressed for reaffirming the commitment to the principles of democracy, rule of law and egalitarianism that the father of the nation Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah propagated throughout his life.

In their separate messages on the 69th death anniversary of Pakistan’s founder, they said that the best way to pay tribute to Quaid-e-Azam is to adhere to the principles of “unity, faith and discipline”, and to carry forward the Quaid’s legacy in letter and spirit towards making Pakistan a developed and prosperous country.

The president said, “We need to pause and reflect as to how far we have succeeded in pursuing the path shown by our Quaid, and equally important is to ponder over our shortcomings and failures.” He added that Quaid possessed a high degree of uprightness, honesty, integrity, courage and conviction and never compromised on his principles nor allowed expediency to influence his judgments.

“These pre-eminent attributes endowed him with a clarity of vision and steadfastness that enabled him to withstand heavy odds and carve an independent state for the Muslims of the sub-continent,” said the president and added that the need to follow the principles of unity, faith and discipline was never as great as it is today.

“Faced with various challenges including the threat of the militant mindset, economic challenges and poverty we need to follow, in letter and spirit, the principles espoused by our great leader,” the president emphasised.

He also said that Pakistan was envisaged to be a country where there would be social justice and economic opportunities for all, therefore, we need to adopt policies which promote the same equality.

Mamnoon said that on Quaid’s death anniversary the best way to pay homage to the founder is by resolving to stand united in confronting all challenges that we face and once again make a pledge that we will make Pakistan a country where there will be rule of law, respect for human rights and economic opportunities for all.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that as a statesman, Quaid led the constitutional struggle that culminated in the creation of an independent homeland for the Muslims of the sub-continent. The freedom movement is a living testimony of the political insight and sagacity of Jinnah who adhered to the ideals of democracy and rule of law, he added.

He also said that by the grace of Almighty Allah, Pakistan is progressing socially, economically and politically. “We have to continue to strive for making our country a place where people live with freedom, dignity and honour as envisioned by the Quaid,” added the prime minister.

He also asked the nation to reaffirm, on this day, that we will devote our energies in individual and collective capacities for the betterment of our state and society. “Our people are enlightened and resilient,” he added.

National Assembly (NA) Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also paid rich tribute to Muhammad Ali Jinnah and said that the guiding principles of unity, faith and discipline are as relevant today as during any part of our history and advised that the challenges Pakistan is facing today could only be confronted through concerted efforts.

The speaker said that Quaid’s achievement [creation of Pakistan] was a unique event in the history of nations and it was characterised by strict adherence to principles. He said that the best tribute which we can pay to the father of the nation is allegiance to principles which he espoused vigorously and the values which he promoted consistently in his career.

“His death anniversary calls for a reappraisal of the situation and a solid commitment to complete Quaid’s mission of consolidating Pakistan and ensuring its stability,” the speaker said.

Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi on this occasion said that we should not forget his unmatched qualities of leadership, which included impeccable integrity, incorruptibility and a truly remarkable capacity for hard work. “I am confident that on this day we would come up to the expectations of our leader and pledge to extend all possible efforts to overcome the challenges confronting the nation and turn them into an opportunity to make Pakistan a better and strong country,” he added.

  1. We have a disgraceful uncouth Media which relegates this news at the bottom. ‘Such’ TV and Dawn take the lead in this degenerative action. No wonder this nation is on the decline. Electronic Medium is destroying the national fibre. Need I say more?

  2. You call him as Jinnah but for the nation he will always be Quaid e Azam. Let me tell you about the problem at the top: it is you DAWN. You betrayed trust when perhaps the one mistake he committed was to sign that picture of his and you claim he “founded” this paper. You are enemy of Pakistan. This is for DAWN.
