Punjab Schools Education Department has devised a comprehensive law to deal with the issue of annual increase in fee of private schools in the province. Under this law, action will be initiated against the private schools that will indulge in extorting any excessive fee after every year in violation of the relevant law enacted by the Punjab government. The purpose is to save the parents from undue economic burden.

This was stated by the spokesperson of the Schools Education Department in a statement issued on Monday. The spokesperson said that in case of any undue annual increase in students’ fee by the private schools, the parents can approach District Education Officer, administrator or the deputy commissioner to reimburse the extra amount paid to the institution.

The spokesman said that a specific procedure has been devised about the annual increase in fee of private schools. Under this law, the private schools charging Rs 4000 or more monthly fee can make up to 5 per cent annual increase and if the school in-charge has sufficient reasons for more than 5 per cent increase in fee, then he/she can give an application to District Education Authority, 60 days before the start of educational year; the registering authority can approve 3 per cent additional increase if needed.
