CM reviews Independence Cup arrangements

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the meeting of provincial cabinet committee on law & order from London through a video link on Monday. During the meeting, different matters pertaining to security of Independence Cup, and other arrangements were reviewed in detail.

The CM directed for foolproof security arrangements of the matches as well as ensuring best arrangements and added that all the arrangements during the matches of World XI and Pakistan XI should be top notch. Arrival of international players to Lahore is an honour for all of us, he said. He directed that the devised security plan should be implemented in letter and spirit and wonderful arrangements should be made for the cricket lovers inside and outside of the stadium.

He said that the players as well as the spectators should be provided with conducive and peaceful environment and for this purpose, all the line departments should exhibit best coordination. The cabinet committee on law & order should present a detailed report by night by reviewing the security and other arrangements, he said.

He said that people should be fully sensitised about the alternate traffic routes so that they could face less difficulty. He directed to make best arrangements of food for police officials and staff of other departments deputed for this purpose and said that the drivers available in the parking lots should also be provided food and other facilities. He said that no compromise will be made on best cleanliness arrangements and therefore, it should be well taken care of. He said that all the people should work collectively to make this mega event a success and perform their duties diligently and efficiently so that the cricket lovers could enjoy best arrangements.

 

DIG GIVES FINAL INSTRUCTIONS:

 Meanwhile, Lahore Investigations DIG Sultan Ahmad Chaudhry briefed the personnel of Dolphin force and Police Response Unit (PRU) about security protocols, emergency responses and use of modern technology in order to ensure better law and order during World-XI cricket matches.

The DIG, along with Punjab Safe City Authority Project Director Akbar Nasir Khan, briefed 16 teams of Dolphin squad and four teams of PRU about operational measures, routes monitoring and use of the latest equipment, at Qurban Lines on Monday.

Audio-video streaming and special MDT handsets enabled with 4-G LTE were also handed over to the policemen, to be developed for the security of the cricketers.

The policemen were also briefed about the contingency strategies to cope with any emergency situation or untoward incident.

Further, Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Capt (retd) Amin Wains said that police have finalised all security arrangements to provide elaborate security cover during World-XI cricket matches.

The personnel of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Elite Force and other law-enforcement agencies have been deployed at routes and surroundings of Gaddafi Stadium, the CCPO added.

He said that the police, by providing foolproof security to the people and international players, would make the mega event peaceful.

He said that search-and-sweep operations were being conducted in surroundings of Gaddafi Stadium, hotels and routes leading to the cricket stadium, adding that no one would be allowed to enter the stadium without the national identity card.

The CCPO said that patrolling has also been initiated at the routes leading from Jail Road to Gaddafi Stadium.
