Zardari urges nation to aspire toward Jinnah’s Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-Chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari has urged the nation to reaffirm their commitment to making Pakistan a democratic, progressive and a welfare state in lines with Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s vision.

He made this call on Sunday in a message on the eve of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah’s death anniversary.

This is the best way to ensure national integration, social cohesion, and security of the country, he said in the message.

“On the eve of Jinnah’s death anniversary we reiterate the pledge to adhere to his vision of the state,”  Zardari said.

Today, more than ever before, we need a narrative that rejects the militant ideology and inculcates a spirit of tolerance and dissent, he said.

“Fighting the militant mindset calls for freedom of expression embedded in the law to freely propagate alternate narratives. It calls for building an intellectual infrastructure resting on the foundations of free inquiry, free debate not only in academic institutions but also as a way of life”.

He paid homage to those who laid down their lives and rendered huge sacrifices for the achievement of Pakistan as well for preserving democracy and constitutionalism in the country.
