Lt Gen Raza says ready to respond to Indian misadventures
MUZAFFARABAD: Rawalpindi Corps Commander Lt Gen Nadeem Raza on Sunday visited Battal and Dawarandi sectors in Azad Jammu Kashmir and appreciated the high morale of the troops and their effective response to ceasefire violations by Indian troops.
During the visit, he warned that the corps would respond aggressively and effectively to any Indian miscalculation or misadventure along the Line of Control, according to an Inter-Services Public Relations statement. Speaking about India’s surgical strike claims ─ which have been denied by Pakistan ─ Lt Gen Raza reiterated the troops’ resolve to respond to such misadventures in the future.
India claimed to have carried out ‘surgical strikes’ in Azad Jammu Kashmir days after 19 Indian soldiers were killed during an attack on the Uri army base in September 2016. India had also accused Pakistan of involvement in the Uri attack while Pakistan denied all such claims. Tensions between Pakistan and India soared, with cross-LoC exchanges of fire becoming a new normal.
