Protests against census halted due to security threats to MQM-P workers: Sattar

KARACHI: While hinting towards the fact that efforts were being made to create an atmosphere of fear in Karachi, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar on Friday, while speaking at a press conference said that they had halted the protest against the census results in Karachi due to looming security threats.

“How can we go to the public when there are serious security threats?” he questioned.

Sattar expressed dissatisfaction over the investigation of the attack on Khawaja Izharul Hassan, adding that they have written letters to the army chief and the chief justice pertaining to security concerns.

Criticising the ruling Pakistan People’s Party in Sindh, the MQM-P leader said they were not afraid of them in Karachi. If you try to treat us unfairly this time, you would face difficulties, he warned the ruling party of Sindh.

Sattar also challenged the chief minister to hold a dialogue with him at Nishter Park, adding that he would tell him how much security a political party chief has deployed for him and how much is deployed with his relatives.

He complained that the police vehicles given to them for security were useless and the police guards were already reaching their retirement age.

The MQM-P leader admitted that the performance of the Karachi mayor was not up to par, however, he said they were trying to improve things with whatever resources they could salvage.
