Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi on Thursday emphasised the role of the nation, especially media, for making the World XI Azadi Tournament successful.
While speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the tournament logo, Sethi said the success of this series is in our national interest. Sethi said the success of this tour will decide the fate of Sri Lanka and West Indies tour to Pakistan so media will have to be vigilant while reporting.
“The media holds a lot of power, but often in the rush to produce breaking news media misreport things, turning it into fake news,” he said as “whatever our media puts out there that will be quoted by the international media”
He added: “The media has a grip over the hearts and minds of the nation. Whatever you say, the people believe to be true, so report facts correctly.”
“However, reporters wishing to get in touch with these players should get in touch with us and we will make it happen instead of trying to speak to them directly,” he said. However, few players do not wish to be a part of anything to do with media, he added.
