Yasmin warns of protests; CM orders enquiry
LAHORE: Unidentified men opened fire outside the election offices of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the NA-120 constituency on Sunday.
According to details, the gunmen managed to escape from the scene unchallenged.
Taking notice of the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Amin Vaince to submit a report and arrest the culprits as soon as possible.
Terming the incident an attempt by the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to harass the rival parties, PTI’s candidate for the upcoming by-election in NA-120, Dr Yasmeen Rashid in a statement said that Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan should ensure that no such incident is repeated in future or else the other parties would have to prepare themselves to respond in kind to such attacks.
Yasmin warned that PTI will conduct a protest if an FIR is not registered.
On the 3rd day of Eid, Rashid carried a door to door campaign in the constituency. She said that Maryam should not portray her father as being innocent and also questioned why PML-N’s campaign was receiving so much coverage from state TV.
Rashid has asked the ECP to take notice of the violations in the code of conduct by several PML-N party members. Rashid said that if PTI’s due concerns are not addressed, the party has various options, including holding a sit-in.
The NA-120 seat fell vacant after PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court from holding office of the prime minister in the Panama Papers case.
The by-polls are due to be held on September 17.
Later in the day, police managed to arrest the culprits.
