Afghan trader shot dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Haji Hunar Jan Shinwari, a leading Afghan trader, was shot dead by unknown assailants in Hayatabad’s Karkhano Bazaar, Peshawar, on Sunday evening.

Eye witnesses and relatives informed that Haji Hunar Jan Shinwari was present in his commercial plaza on Sunday evening when unknown assailants, on bikes, fired shots at him with automatic weapons.

He was then rushed to Hayatabad Medical Complex where the doctors declared him dead.

Belonging to the Shinwari tribe, Haji Hunar Jan was residing in Landi Kotal, Khyber Agency, adjacent to Pak-Afghan border. The body of the deceased was shifted to his hometown, Afghanistan, on Monday morning.

Police have registered a case and started further investigations.

A large number of Afghan traders and businessmen had established businesses in Peshawar and several other cities and towns throughout the country following the country. In recent past, a number of Afghan traders had been abducted, later to be released on ransom.
