Pak Christian Community member, Sidra Anwar, appointed Assistant Commissioner Lahore

In a country where minority rights have become a mere periphery of state affairs amidst political and socio-economic turmoil the country faces, there is, however, a glimmer of hope.

The Christian community of Pakistan has almost always had to fend for itself trying to fight an uphill battle for employment despite, in a lot of cases, being qualified for said positions. A general bigoted consensus is rampant amongst Pakistanis (employers and non-employers alike) that the Christian community can only be hired, or is ‘fit’, for the cleaning services sector and that ‘fittingly’ their fate is sealed.

There are, however, instances when the ostracised community rises above the prejudice. Most recently, Sidra Anwar did just this by being appointed as Lahore’s Assistant Commissioner whilst ranking ‘Captain’ in the Pakistan Army.

It is hoped that the example set my Sidra acts as an exception to the ‘rule’ set by the wider Pakistani masses and subsequently encourages other members of the Christian community to rise above like she has.
