245,806 applications received through OCAS

LAHORE: Out of the 716 public colleges which have been registered for online admissions, 651 colleges across Punjab have received 245,806 applications since the launch of admission cycle 2017, through the Punjab Information Technology Board’s (PITB) Online College Admissions System (OCAS).

According to OCAS monitoring dashboard, till Wednesday, applications with gender and programme segregation recorded 55,310 applications for ICS (59 per cent male and 41 per cent female, 51,267 for Fsc Pre-Medical (71 per cent female and 29 per cent male), 73,829 for FA (64 per cent female, 36 per cent male), 38,650 for Fsc Pre Engineering (68 per cent male, 32 per cent female), 18,677 for I-Com (69 per cent male, 31 per cent female), 5,547 for D-Com (92 per cent male and 8 per cent female) and 3,360 for General Science (64 per cent male and 36 per cent female).

The OCAS system has been developed for processing intermediate admissions applications for their FA, FSc, ICS programs. OCAS had processed almost one million applications during the past few years. For the 2017 cycle, among 246,544 online admission applications, 82,062 applications were submitted online while 164,482 were uploaded in the system by the respective colleges.

They system provides a web-based facility for applicants to submit admission applications online. OCAS was built to provide easy, convenient, efficient and reliable access to students for admissions in the government colleges for higher education.

PITB Chairman Dr Umar Saif was of the view that the initiative has helped in improving and formulating the education policy through the monitoring of trending interest in various subjects and to establish new institutions and assessing the required needs.

Free of cost availability of college broachers and online admission forms is an added feature of the system, while it has considerably reduced the visits of students and their parents to colleges, ensuring timely compilation of applications and merit list.
