LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday constituted a special committee to address the complaints about the unlawful annual increase in tuition fee by some private schools.

The special committee, headed by Punjab Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Shamail Ahmad Khawaja, held a meeting at Civil Secretariat on Monday.

Punjab Examination Commission Chairman Zafar Iqbal Qureshi,

Punjab Schools Education Secretary Allah Bakhsh Malik, Punjab Higher Education Secretary Nabeel Ahmad Awan, deputy secretaries, Saba Asghar Ali, Abdul Rehman Khagga and Muhammad Yunis participated in the meeting.

Allah Bakhsh Malik explained the legal framework for private educational institutions in the province.

He said that complaints lodged by parents about the fee increase were addressed regularly.

He said that taking notice of violation of the Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion & Regulations) Amended Ordinance 2017, the Punjab chief minister had desired a review of the situation and sought recommendations for a more effective regulatory regime and enforcement mechanism to fully implement all sections of the relevant regulations in letter and spirit.

The Punjab ACS proposed reorganisation of district enforcement committees by including deputy commissioners and district police officers as convener and co-convener, respectively.

The recommendations would be submitted to the chief minister for approval.
