ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Monday said that the economic turn-around achieved, as a result of prudent economic policies pursued by the present government, should be further consolidated for maintaining macroeconomic stability and ensuring sustainable economic growth.
The prime minister stated this while chairing a meeting on revenue and tax collection at the PM office. Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar briefed the PM on current economic and financial health of the country and a commitment to broaden the tax base, and facilitating payment of taxes was also reiterated during the briefing.
The prime minister was apprised that the collection of taxes had witnessed a successful upward trajectory over the past four years and that the overall tax collection had increased on a sustainable basis making the outflows available for infrastructural development projects as well as for public welfare schemes.
PM Abbasi observed that taxation was a core function of the public sector management, and was also seen as imperative for a modern system of governance in the context of a viable state. To that extent, he said, the government was committed to utilising tax revenues for the development and welfare of common man.
Finance secretary, FBR chairman and senior government officials were also present during the meeting.
